ANXIETY OF INDULENGE

Anxiety of Indulgence is a found-footage work that sets the glossy, hyper-stylized language of dessert commercials against the relentless spectacle of “disaster porn” in news and internet media.

Motion Design

The project replays the uncanny overlap between how we are taught to consume pleasure and how we consume catastrophe. Its soundtrack, assembled from cellphone recordings of demolitions, storms, and accidents, reflects the pulse of the contemporary crowd: restless, insatiable, unable to look away, caught between arousal and dread.

The work is rooted in the memory of the Altadena fires, where I watched close friends lose their homes
and livelihoods overnight. Their lives were forced into suspension while the city around them carried on unchanged. That rupture between intimate devastation and collective indifference drives the tension at
the heart of the piece.
